In this Guatemalan folklore belief, these tiny, handmade cloth and wire dolls are placed under a person's pillow before sleep. They are thought to absorb any worries or problems someone might have allowing the person to rest peacefully. The person can awaken free of any worry or worries (one doll is used for each individual trouble) as if the doll "worried for them."
Painter, Schery Markee Sullivan, has taken this folklore to the dimension of mixed media and collage on paper and canvas. Her worry dolls seem to come alive, dancing with color, movement and expression, ready to take the weight of the world away from the viewer. They are fun, whimsical and magical. You just have to believe!
